Google co-founder, Larry Page, announced in 2015 that Google would go through an organizational restructuring. Page explained that the restructure would allow the individual areas that were operating unrelated projects to be disconnected from Google and restructured as a subsidiary of the new parent company, Alphabet Inc. This restructure was not in response to an issue, but instead, a way to preempt an issue. Page added that this restructure would allow them to operate cleaner and with more accountability. Prior to the restructure, Google had departments working on unrelated to each other. With the restructure, Google will be able to continue focusing on their original products like YouTube and internet services. Other projects have been reorganized into new subsidiaries under Alphabet like Calico, a company working to extend human longevity. This allows the individual companies to work towards their organization-specific goals that may be different from other companies also under the Alphabet umbrella. Restructuring altered many key variables. The new organizational structure allows for better communication within each company, a more stable size for Google to run, and less of a power struggle amongst executives. It is likely that this restructure will be successful because it allows each company to focus on their organization’s goals and should increase productivity.

Explanation / Answer
Personally speaking I agree with the massive reorganization that Google opted for. Alphabet will be the parent company and it will have subsidiary companies like Google X, the experimental division of Google, Calico, the longevity research firm and Nest, the home automation company. Google will continue services like YouTube, search, ads, Maps etc. Since majority of the customers use services which come under the Google branding, the consumers will continue using the Google services and would not be affected in any way. This massive restructuring is good for the company because the unrelated projects are separated out of Google for more focus. Each project will now be more focused and the struggle for power by executives would be minimized. Alphabet is designed to allow more room for subsidiaries to develop their own identities. Alphabet will not have any consumer facing roles and the companies which come under the umbrella of Alphabet will focus more on research, development and finance. The giant company Google is now a subsidiary of Alphabet and this massive restructuring is a good decision for Google for its betterment.
