You are a professionally certified project manager working for a consulting company. Your manager has just let you know that you will be assigned to work with a new client as soon as a contract is signed. The client wants help with selecting a project management methodology in order to increase the maturity level of project management practices in his organization. For confidentiality reasons your manager cannot tell you anything else about the client or his business but still expects you to propose some solutions to the client in a meeting that is scheduled for three days from now. What would you do? The project management methodology is the approach adopted by the project manager of the organization in order to logically relate the work place practices, approaches, operations etc so that the effective completion of the project can be accomplished. Here the client wants the consulting firm to propose a project management methodology through which the organization can enhance its maturity level of the project management practices.
In order to enhance the maturity level of the project management practices the project manager can focus on the phases of the project management which includes the define, plan, launch, manage and close.
The organization can select any project management methodology as there are many methodologies available for example; waterfall, Agile, Hybrid etc. The project manager should select the PMM based on the constraints and requirements of the project. Some of the principles which the project manager can follow while selecting the PMM are mentioned below.
Through choosing this approach the project manager can evaluate the effectiveness of the PMM and can identify how reliable is it for the project. Through considering this principle the project manager can cover almost all risks associated with the project completion and hence can ensure its successful completion.
