Explanation / Answer

1. Basic Probe in Depth Interview: The answer contains unclear concepts or terms that make its meaning ambiguous. The interviewer should probe saying, “How do you mean that?”

Probing is done to fully understand what the interviewee is trying to say or express.

Answer: Option b

2. If the interviewer probed something like: “Well, would you say fair or poor?” This also is a bad practice that will affect the answers as the degree with which the interviewee may answer this question can be quite subjective. For some person, it can be fair while for other it can be poor. Hence, probing will not be able to get clarity in the thoughts of the interviewee.

3. I would prefer using Non-Directive probing as Directive probing has a tendency to influence the interviewee’s answer. Non-directive probing tries to encourage the interviewee to clarify his thought process, without posing any influence on his answer.

4. Cartoon Test is a type of construction technique through which the interviewee is encouraged to express his thought process in form of a story.

In Cartoon test, characters and a situation is shown to the interviewee and he is asked about what the response of a character in that cartoon can be. This is quite an illustrative way to see the approach, the interviewee uses to articulate and express his thoughts.
