My topic is focused on China. China is one of the worlds largest powerful players in the trade market, especially over the last ten years. Although their anti-corruption legal frame work is improving, they are not exempt from corruption. They have been scrutinized for the scandals that involved Chinese companies for not complying with good procurement standards regarding labor and environment. Their entire governance has been questioned regarding their accountability, transparency, and integrity. They have also been involved with bribery in order to win over contacts. Currently, China is working harder with the UN in order to continue working on the country's legal frame work for anti-corruption. The other issues that have been in recent news involves President Trump and the decision to either raise the tariffs to $50 billion in which China's knee jerk reaction will be to match the US tariff. Trump then said he might decide to do away with tariffs. The outcome will be a big decision that will either hurt or help our economy as well as all other countries the US trades with.

Explanation / Answer

Though China is emerging as a superpower, Chinese companies still have been under the scrutiny for procurement and quality standards. It is high time, that they take some serious measures for the same as the future holds humongous business for the country. This is because of the global business shift from USA towards the Asian continent due to Donald Trump’s protectionist policies for USA. Developing nations like China and India need to capitalize on this golden opportunity and emerge as superpowers in the global market. Also, regarding the tariff issue, China should not be a first mover in this aspect. It can wait for other major players to occupy their stance and based on the same, the Chinese Government can play its cards. China also needs to concentrate on its big global plan i.e. the Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to expand global influence of China by building infrastructure globally.
