Explanation / Answer

Cabral and Hortacsu conducted a survey exclusively on seller-specific search. In this search, all the possible items on which bidder has bid in the previous month can be traced. It also provides the complete history on the feedback given for both sellers and buyers. Thus an incomparable dataset form eBay can also be created.

In order to gather data on sellers, Katkar and Reiley (2006) conducted a field experiment. In addition to that a sniping program was offered to e-Bay bidders by Bapna et al. The research was even more refined by Garratt et al, by whom the eBay bidders were recruited in order to carry out an Internet experiment on second-price auctions.

To mention some significant literature reviews and a beginer survey of the eBay market, an accurate overview of the eBay market in the initial days of its development is being provided by Lucking Reiley in 1998.

Bajari and Hortacsu conducted a well defined survey of the primitive literature. Ocken-fels et al conducted a well defined and detailed study of electronic auctions, and their prime focus was on the experimental literature.

The author has decided not to spend much time in the analysis of market design as sufficient work has already been done in this context.
