Be more perceptive of their efforts and actions, notice the small things they do every day. Remember that a leader who builds an organization singularly dependent on them for success has failed. A leader who develops leaders to replace them creates a lasting legacy and clear path to success. From this statement above I need help answering the following
What do you hope to impact and/or influence with your selection: individual/organizational performance?
How do internal and/or external cultural influences relate to your selection?
How would you communicate your selection?
Explanation / Answer
From a leaders perspective, passing on the legacy for individual/ organizational performance uplift is a vital task that comes with a leader’s role.
Being a good performer yourself is great to run the show. However, its more important to have a succession planning, in turn ensuring what that in his absence a team is built which is sufficient enough to run by itself with all the skills and expertise that the Leader himself displays.
Thus, being a best performer yourself is great. However being able to train, guide and shape a peer to be able to take equal charges and exhibit the leader like qualities in one thing to achieve in the tenure of leadership.
Its quite a motivator and “Stewardship” to have the flag of leadership qualities flying with or without superior supervision. It drives immense ownership and is very helpful in turning around with profitable results. If every individual is motivated towards contributing in an optimum manner and there will remain no dependencies in task completions.
So, even if the initial selection is individualistic, if to be seen in a broader perspective and longer run vision, if the same trend continues and people help each other in the organization to overcome timid barriers and develop the leadership competencies, there would only be profit making and business excellence.
