In a minimum of 100 words state if you agree or disagree with the summary below of what the police officers, government could have done better. Discuss the theories used here.

For either of the City Manager or the police commanders during the Ferguson riots, a lot had to be going on. There are theories and concepts that can come into play and help us understand why they made certain decisions. During this, there had to be a lot of public decision-making going on. When a police officer is making decisions, a few theories and concepts can come into play. Some of these theories can be public choice theory or game theory. Public choice theory is the study of the behavior of individuals and other organizations. Another thing learned by Holtzer and Schwester, game theory, is when participants make decisions that will affect other participants. Both of these theories can be thought about by police officers when dealing with a riot. Another concept that can come into play during a riot such as this one is groupthink. Groupthink is making decisions in a group. It always helps to hear others opinions or views before making a huge decision. When the government attempted to address this situation, they were faced with many problems. The government had to step up, improve their performance, and take charge. With federalism and intergovernmental relations, they faced problems with the laws. Police officers were being more aggressive than normal and many violations were taking place. More tickets were also being written at this time. It was more likely that a black man was going to get pulled over than a white man, which is not right. The government had to step in and it took a lot of effort to calm things down.

Explanation / Answer

No! I do not agree with what the police officers did in order to control the riots. The officers acted more violently and took aggressive decisions against the general public. They were writing more tickets than ever before. Officers were being discriminate in their actions and were pulling black over white. All this was against the laws and against the general interests of the public.

The government took steps in order to cool down the situation. Although police officers made use of different theories in order to handle the situation but they could have done it in a more cool and composed manner.

And the game theory used in the above situation refers to the situation where one side of participants make the decision, due to which the participants of other side are affected. In the above case, police officers took the decision to act violently and their decision affected the general public.

Police officers also took help of the groupthink theory while dealing with the public. It means making huge decisions not alone but after consulting with the entire team. With the help of this theory police officers were able to take a unanimous decision and deal with the public. But the decision taken was not effective as it harmed the public in many ways and harmed the integrity of the public.
