What has happened to the aggregate labor force participation rate in the post WWIl period? How about the rates between males and females? Why do you think this is the case? What factors account for the declining participation rates for older males XWhat factors account for the increase in participation rates of married women? Use a work leisure diagram to explain how each of these factors might individually alter either the indifference curves or the budget lines of women and make labor force participation more likely.

Explanation / Answer

For more than 50 years the ratio of men working in their prime or older age has been shrinking. This decline has been accelerated by the Great Recession.

This falling rate has resulted in severe consequences including economic growth getting slower and dependency on labor outside the country being increased.

Few factors that have affected the decline are:

1.      This falling rate of participation in the labor work indicates that more and more people are unwilling to work at current wage rate.

2. The standard of education has grown high and educated workers earn better than the labour workers.

3.      Rise and active participation by the women workers is also attributed to be one of the factors of declining labour work
