Question
Watson's research was more in regard to classical conditioning while Skinner's research was more centered on through operant conditioning. Skinner believed that human behavior could be explained by external forces and by one's reaction to the environment. He felt all behavior is due to reinforcing stimuli. We all get something for doing something. You can hear Dr. Phil use this principle on his show when he asked his guests **What is your payoff?** For behaviorists they feel that every behavior is motivated by getting something which they call a reinforcement. There is both positive and negative reinforcement. A positive reinforcer increases a behavior due to getting something for doing it and a negative reinforcer is doing something to avoid something negative happening. For example a person goes to work every day to get paid-positive reinforcement and a person may not be late going to work to avoid getting a reprimand from his or her supervisor-negative reinforcement. Would you agree with the behaviorists that all behavior is conditioned?
Explanation / Answer
Yes , i agree with the behaviorists that all behavior is conditioned.
Wouldn't , it will be great if we able to control our behavior? we would have been avoid alcoholism,over-eating , all bad habits, being late, procrastination and impulsive comments, rushing at the last minute , misplaced objects and papers, sinful behavior , etc. Instead, we would have good health, a beautifully exercised body,an organized life ,excellent work habits ,good mental health , good social graces, success and healthy attitudes. But The truth is: we can't control all your behavior. everyone are a little out of control. like, some of us are ruining our lives and/or killing ourselves with food, alcohol, drugs , cigarettes and other ways. There is an big difference between the people who are in control and those which are out of control. understanding the causes of behavior and how to change it will help in gaining better control.
