Question
he cost of labor in India, Vietnam, Cambodia, China etc are significantly lower than in the United States.
As a result, many companies headquartered in the United States are producing their products outside the United States.
Of course the labor regulations in those countries are different than in the United States and often children are allowed to work long hours in the factories. A family in Asia insists that the income generated by their 12 year old son who works 15 hours a day is needed to support the family.
Was it ethical to hire the 12 year old boy? Would it be ethical to fire the 12 year old boy?
Imagine you are a marketing consultant. What would you tell the executives regarding child labor?
Should they stop using factories overseas that employ children and have them work long hours in hot factories (“sweat shops”).
What are the alternatives? What are your recommendations? Why do you recommend this course of action?
Explanation / Answer
Child labour is a serious crime in any country and childrens hould never be made to work for that much long time. The companies must refrain from getting products from such places and hire experienced workers to do the job. Hiring workers of age will also makes the work done faster. This will help in saving time and money. Children must never be made to work and any company doing it or encouraging it must be punished. We as a marketing consultant must definately stop such acts and never encourage them and should warnt he executives against such acts.
