Question
I need a discussion response to the below post for my Business Leadership class
Think of a problem situation you would like to change at work, at school, or at home and describe how you would frame the topic and approach the change using appreciative inquiry.
Appreciative inquiry is a technique for leading change that engages individuals, teams, or the entire organization by reinforcing messages and focusing on learning from success rather than looking at the negative. Appreciative inquiry can be used in a large scale or small scale. If you use appreciative inquiry on a large scale, you follow four steps: discovery, dream, design, and destiny. First, you start with discovery which is finding out what is the best about the company. The dream stage is what if the discovery stage happened every day. The design is how to make the dream stage a reality, and the destiny stage is implementing concrete action steps to solve an issue with positive ideas (Daft, 2017).
An example of where I would use appreciative inquiry at work would be the way my boss handles his coaches. I am the athletic director secretary at my school. The coaches have a very big issue with how the office is ran. I have had an entire summer to try to figure out how to help the problem. One of the major things I have done with each coach that comes into the office is ask them what they want to see well rather than what is the problem. I have had most of my coaches say the same thing over and over again to make the department better. I have approached my athletic director and am directly involved with solving the problem they have. It will be done by the time next school year starts. I know if this is implemented every day, and I have a set plan to make the positive happen, we will have one of the best athletic departments in the county.
How could you increase the number of novel and useful solutions you can come up with to solve this problem?
I would increase novel and useful solutions to solve our problem by being directly in charge of the problems. I know how busy my athletic director, and I was hired to make his life easier. I can absolutely do that by solving problems that are in my pay grade and asking him when it needs approval from someone who is in a hire pay grade. I can solve many of the issues that have been on the table and exploit the good things that are going on in our office. I know that is why the office will be very successful.

Explanation / Answer
Appreciative inquiry is a positive way of bringing about changes in the organization that engages all the staff in the organization by reinforcing success stories and messages and not by pinpointing the negative aspects of the staff or the organization. This is a positive and better approach of bringing about changes.
Thus in order to bring about changes in how the boss handles his coaches using appreciative inquiry is abetter approach as it would not hurt anybody's feelings and at the same time, the changes are also brought about. The athletic director emotions would not be hurt, he would not get the pinch of it and at the same time his approach towards handling coaches would also change.
