Question
Regarding whistle blowing: Many individuals have been faced with situations where there is a conflict in ethical standards and they could not simply look the other way. What would you do if you were faced a conflict of ethical standards? Could you live with your decision? What if there were negative impacts on the company as a result of your decision? What do you perceive to be the consequences for you, your family, coworkers, etc.? (Respond to the post and respond to at least one of your classmates. Minimum of 125 words per post.)
Explanation / Answer
When I am faced with a situation which challenges me ethically, I always try to figure out the reason.
In most occasions I wait for some time to see if the situtation is improving . Are there the corrective methods being applied. If still the change does not happen I ideally figure out and report to my immediate superior, this is to inform that I am not okay and get clear idea why is this being ignoreed, is it by ignorance or if all the players involved are party to it.
Based on the observation I take my stand, I do not accept if its wrong, if its a short term thing and my mistake it has happended I give it time to be rectified, otherwise I can not stand it and would definitely though some source or other inform the media about the mishandling unless all parties are aware and it is taken as granted and has become a norm even though unethical. There are certain practices specific to industy like mining or construction where all parties deliberately work unethically including the government and enforcing parties , to destroy forest etc, in such a case I try to stay away .
