VERSION 4.0 INFORMATION SYSTEM TION SYSTEMS: A MANAGER'S GUIDE TO HARNESSING TECHNOLOGY V A Little Too Public? As with any type of social media, content flows in social networks are difficult to control. Embarrassing disclos ures can emerge from public systems or insecure internal networks. Employees embracing a culture of digital sharing may err and release confidential or proprietary information. Networks could serve as a focal point for the disgruntled (imagine the activity on a corporate social network after a painful layoff). Publicly declared affliations, political or religious views, excessive contact, declined participation, and other factors might lead to awkward or strained employee relationships. Users may not want to add a coworker as a friend on a public network if it means theyll expose their activities, lives, persona, photos, sense of humor, and friends as they e ist outside of work And many firms fear wasted time as employees surf the musings and photos of their peers All are advised to be cautious in their social media sharing. Employers are trawling the Internet, mining Face book, and scouring YouTube for any tip-off that a would-be hire should be passed over. A word to the wise those Facebook party pics, YouTube videos of open mic performances, or blog postings from a particulary militant period might not age well and may haunt you forever in a Google search. Think twice before clicking the upload button! As Socialnomics author Erik Qualman puts it, What happens in Vegas stays on YouTube (and Flickr, Twitter, Facebook...). Firms have also created their own online communities to foster brainsto

Explanation / Answer

The growing menace of Social media

In the modern times where concerns about privacy and confidentiality have reached new levels, it seems that yet our dependency has increased many folds on the social media. In fact, you could likely befriend someone that you hardly know on any of the social media sites and learn more about their life from random and absurd posts than you would know them personally. Nowadays, even family members often find out more about their own family by following them on Facebook or any other social media than they do by living with them.

The next thing to be wondered is why we spend so much time investing in the indolence of other people’s lives. Does it really matter to we what people that you hardly know, and in some cases have never met are spending their time doing. Do we really want to know about the complexity of their life. Are they really that important? Don't we have enough complications in our own life?

It is peculiar to see that as each and every one of us strive for the right to keep our private lives private, yet seem to display our lives to the world to see in the social media platforms. Most of the people in this world want to be able to live and let live and want to carry on through the normalcy of their life without being judged or even questioned for what they are doing. But still these very people find it staggering that others might judge them and make quick presumptions based on the postings which maybe are too much personal to be made public.

The frightening thought is that smart and often internet savvy people who understand just how invasive the internet can be do not take a second to consider what it is they are posting about themselves, their friends, their family, or their life. Bottom-line is before you indulge an emotion that may be going through your head, you should take a minute to be certain how talking about it online may impact your life in different spheres in reality.

The only solution to this growing menace of social media is to control ourselves and involve in more real time interaction with the people around us, i.e, our friends and family. We sgould be more careful to choose with whom we should share our personal moments and are they worth it . The day by day incidents of harrasment over the internet and various kinds of cyber crimes tells us that, we should become more cautious while there is still time to save ourselves.

We should avoid over indulging ourselves in the social media activities and devote more time doing more construtive works in the real world.

Different companies are making various in-house rules to avoid their employees being less productive and devoting their time and energy by involving unnecessarily in the social media. They believe too much participation in their colleagues' lives may hamper their relationship in the organization and eventually lead to insufficient productivity. These rules and regulatons are welcomed by some whereas some are apprehensive about it. The would be job-seekers should be especially cautious about their activities, so that they do not regret of loosing an opportunity due to any of their personal moments shared in the social or digital media, which might seem inappropiate to the others.
