First, let’s talk about Amazon. The organization is well known for its stance on cultural hiring. If you attend interviews with Amazon, you need to make sure that the 14 principles that are there in their value system matches with your personality. One of those is customer focus. And this is something that Amazon takes very seriously. There have been reports about how Amazon has saved people’s holiday with going that extra mile to help their customers. Such steps have become synonymous with Amazon’s service and since one of their oldest business is selling products online to customers, it has made them very popular. This in turn has contributed to the success of Amazon.
Next company, Apple has kind of a cult following when it comes to their product. The company is also well known to keep their design, product features, updates and other information secret until the day of announcement. This is a well-documented phenomena that Apple loves secrecy. This also provide their products with tight security measures and has caused the company some trouble (e.g. Apple vs FBI 2016). Their culture of secrecy/privacy does two key things for consumers. Firstly, customers like the fact that their data and privacy is intact with Apple. Secondly they are always curious about what will be the next iteration in their product line up. This in turn causes massive boost in faith and hype in the market. Naturally, this has caused Apple to become the first company to have a $1 trillion valuation.
