This morning, Mr. and Mrs. McDonald and their daughter Grace, a senior here at Central, came in to see me. They indicated they wanted to file a complaint against Ms. Cockeral, one of our science teachers.Mr. McDonald went on to say that, Ms. Cockeral, according to his daughter, was teaching the test and as a result, several students scored as high as Grace. He

said the result of this was that his daughter’s standing in the class had been diminished and this would have a negative impact on the likelihood of her being awarded a scholarship.At this point, I quizzed Grace at length as to what Ms. Cockeral allegedly had done in class. I was certain that Ms. Cockeral had only reviewed for the Comprehensive Skills Tests. However, Grace insisted that Ms. Cockeral had taught the actual test items. I am not sure what to do with this. Ms. Cockeral is an excellent teacher. I can’t believe she would use the actual test items as review material.CJ, you should know that Grace is a brilliant student. She scores at the 99th percentile on everything. As for this impacting who gets a scholarship and for how much, I can’t say for sure. However, we do use the results of the Comprehensive Skills Test to determine the recipients of our local (district) scholarships.

Explanation / Answer

1. I will First call in the students of the class at random and do a QnA round with them. I will choose three students that scored highes marks other than Grace and three student that scored the lowest in the class.

Along with QnA I will also ask them few questions from the test they have answered and tally their answers with what they have written.

This will help me to understand what they were prepared for and do they actually know the answers or they just memorize the questions they were asked to do as alleged by Grace.

I will also ask for the copy of the the skill tesst that  Ms. Cockeral gave the class to revise.

2. If the charges are found and  Ms. Cockeral is found to be guilty, She should be suspended for a month or so.

Also the class should be asked to apear for the test again.
