TaleTattle Tale Harvard Case Assume that TJ has decided to report to the course professor on his own and proceeded to do so without informing the rest of the group 1. What are the ethical issues presented in this altered scenario? 2. Is it right or wrong of TJ to do so? 3. What are the reasons in support or objection? 4. What should TJ have done instead? 5. What are the reasons in support of the alternative solution?

Explanation / Answer

TJ decided to report to the course professor on his own without informing the rest of the group 1 as there has been wrongful doing in the group 1. One of the member of the group was using another's work as his own, in other words he was doing plagiarism, which is called stealing other person work and showing to other people as his own work. This is unethical behaviour of an individual which gives rise to malpractices and corruption. There is no code of conduct followed while doing a project.

1. To attain a task or project assigned, there has to be an ethical vision while working on that project. Since, no one was against plagiarism except T.J, it states that there has not been any corrective actions followed as the thought process of the members was unethical, giving rise to cheating. Earlier, in our ancient times, education was considered as a part of religion. There was a close relation between a teacher and a student.

Good deeds will produce good results and the evil will suffer evil consequences. Work should be done as an offering to divine.

2. What TJ thought of doing, was absolutely right as he was the only one standing against unethical or illegal behaviour. He was not malpraticing anything. In fact, he decided to tell the course professor about the unethical issue going on in the project, however he was told to be quite, TJ was in a fix as his heart was telling him to expose every person doing plagiarism. Not telling about the issue, was something wrong which TJ did. He just thought, but did not tell the professor, which on itsown a wrongful act, as he was somewhere giving rise to these malpractices by being quite.

3. The reason what I think is he was scared of being isolated in the whole project. He may had the fear of getting boycotted. Being ignored because of some wrong opinion is the worst thing in a team or group. As groups are made to interact. So, he was scared of loosing the interation, eventually the fellow companionship. He wsas the only one who understand the significance of role of values in any task assigned. By values, I mean an in-built mechanism which distinguishes right from wrong. Right or wrong should be interpreted in the context of the social environment in which a person lives, moves and acts.

Work quality is greatly influenced by the ethical and moral values. However, number of people tend to disregard the importance of such values. There should be an awareness of the individual as a goal in himself not as a means of reaching a goal.

4. TJ thought of telling the truth to the course professor but was told to be quite by some fellow members in the group. TJ should have told the professor about the unethical functions going on in the completion of the project. Ethics deal with ideals. Ethics simply show you what is good or bad and what is right or wrong. TJ was convined by the ethics, values and moral beliefs. He somewhere believed that unethical behaviour can affect their reputation in the eyes of the professors, however he did not have the courage to stand alone with his good ethics. People who are ethical are most likely to build trust among other people in a society, and surely good for their reputation and goodwill.

5. Those who endorse ethical values and beliefs, in effect point to the apparent diverseness of human values and multiformality of moral codes to support their case. In this above case, some immoral moralities have been adopted: stealing, plagiarism, malpractice, etc.

Ethics determine norms, ideals, standards, values and beliefs. Ethics pass judgement of value upon human actions with reference to the moral ideal. These evaluate our conduct as right or wrong. Any conduct which is not done by a person of his own free will is not judged to be the subject matter of ethics or moral judgements.

In a nutshell, I would like to say that a man should enjoy th benefits of his good deeds or suffer the consequences of his bad deeds and the consequences of actions come after the deeds are done. One should perform the deed out of his own free will and not be compelled to do it by some other force.
