Based on documentation gathered, your internal audit fraud team has sufficient evidence to prove that a warehouse manager for the company where you work has been stealing inventory. You have been assigned to lead the interview of the manager. How would you prepare for an interview at the company’s warehouse offices? When i will call or go for a visit to warehouse office i will not tell him the exact matter for the interview. Rather would like to have a causal chat with him so that he is unaware about the interview thing. And if he is aware then he will try to conceal or damage the evidences or he could develop some different story so that to confuse myself and the team involved.

I will put him a mail or call him saying that want to have a meeting with regards to some important discussion about warehouse management and inventory projections kind of thing. So that he understand that its a important meeting and its with regard to some discussion about projections and warehouse management. By the time i need to keep myself ready with all the facts and logical explanation and i should have a proper pattern of asking questions.

Also include in your discussion how you would prepare the interview room and how you would conduct yourself during the interview.

I will conduct the interview in a closed room along with some team members from my side. I will carefully start with the numbers which shows the variance in inventories and the warehouse manager should get a hint after some time. Then might be he himself tell the truth and we don’t need to interrogate him further. If he doesn’t accept that need to show him all the facts and figures along with the proofs. Finally we should make him accept the fraud he has done and the mode of recovery for the stolen value of inventory. We should also enquire the other parties or person involved in this so that we should not face this kind of thing in the future.
