Another way that it can be subjectively evaluated by a safety aspect is by having the local fire department observe the emergency strategies, exit locations and fire extinguisher locations. An objective evaluation for safety purposes could be done by recording the amount of time that it would take the entire company to complete an emergency situation. Another way to evaluate the plant layout objectively would be to determine how much area is being consumed by non-value added activities and establish a plan to eliminate or reduce the waste.

1. Productivity of a company:
Productivity is a measure of efficiency. It may be related to machine or person. The efficiency is measured while the person or machine is used to convert inputs into outputs.
Productivity is an important determinant of cost and usually, higher productivity translates into lower costs and vice versa. The key things that should be looked for are the overall capabilities, and not just the costs. Productivity = units of output/units of input. A multifactor perspective should be taken into account. This is because it is not easy to increase the productivity of one factor by replacing it with another.
2. Recycling waste and going green:
The following things will have to be looked out for to know how the company is recycling waste and going green -
(i) Is the company using CFL or LED? - Both CFL and LED uses less energy and lasts longer.
(ii) Is the company using biodegradable cleaners? - Using biodegradable cleaning products will reduce the introduction of harsh toxins and other chemicals to the environment.
(iii) Is the company using greener appliances? - Company should stop using outdated appliances and should start using energy efficient and rated appliances.
The company should buy recycled materials and urge its employees to recycle waste. It should focus on reduce as well as reuse.
3. Safety:
The first thing to be looked out for is the leadership of the organization. This is because it is leadership that creates a culture of safety performance within an organization. The following needs to be seen and determined:-
(i) do the leaders communicate safety standards to their teams? (ii) do the leaders prevent unsafe acts? (iii) do the leaders motivate the staff to be safer?
Further, there should be regular monitoring of safety standards on a regular basis. One should also see if safety is being given a top priority in the organization or not.
4. Operations - Scheduling and Planning:
We should start with the production plan of an organization.This plan helps in establishing an overall level of output. For determining the level of scheduling and planning we should determine and examine if the process is able to satisfy the current planned level of sales on one hand and meeting the objectives of earning profit, maintaining productivity and customer satisfaction on the other hand.
Operations requires a comparison of sales projections or requirements and the production capabilities of the organization.
5. Quality:
Quality can be determined by judging the fitness for the purpose a product or service is meant. The product or service should meet the requirement of the customer. So the key thing to look out or determine here is whether the product is satisfying the needs of the customers.
Another aspect to look out for is corporate governance. A company focused on quality has strong corporate governance in the form of professional management. The business model of the company will also have to be examined. A quality company has a growing business model or an established business model.
