Yes, certainly. Motivational methods differ according to the ages, races, national origins, cultures, genders, and educational backgrounds of your subordinates.

A motivating factor for one individual may not be the motivational factor for other.

Consider a newly recruited employee and a senior executive. Motivational factor for a fresher would be his salary as this is his first job.

But for a senior execute basic salary no more acts as a motivational factor. He would be motivated when his experience and tenure at work is tied with additional benefits such as increments, bonus, etc.

Thus, as a manager, one should clearly what motivates the employees.

List the three theories you have selected in order of applicability to the real work environment. Justify your answers.

First would be the Maslow Hierarchy of needs. The reason is when people satisfy their needs on one level, they progress to the next level of need as motivation for behavior. Consider a fresher at job. His first level would be to earn good salary, once this is satisfied, he will plan for constructing or purchasing a house and likewise.

Second would be the social exchange and equity theory. It provides a balance between efforts and rewards in organizations. When this is in practice in the organization, it is sure to have loyal employees.

Now comes the Expectancy theory. It states that there are connections between effort, performance, and outcomes.
