Explanation / Answer
What is the Competency perspective of leadership?
For a leader it is important to possess certain traits and this theory explains those traits in 7 different category: mainly: Leadership motivation, Integrity, Emotional intelligence, Drive, knowledge of business, self-confidence, intelligence.
Answer 1:
I believe I have following 2 competency:
1. Leadership motivation : I believe I can influence and motivate my team by leading them from front and by setting example. I believe a team can be successful if the members of the team are motivated and for that it is essential that the leader should be able to inject the enthusiasm and energy to the team to attain the common objective.
2. Integrity: A clear communication with no hidden objective is essential for the leader. A team always look up to their leader and expect the truthfulness and consistency from their leader. They expect their leader to deliver what he preach. And I believe I have that trait of being honest and transparent to my team.
Answer 2:
One aspect or competency I would like to develop is
Emotional Intelligence: For me the Emotional intelligence consists of understanding, and responding to emotions, overcoming stress in the moment, having self-awareness on what am I saying and how I say things as for leader words are as powerful as sword and can be as destructive as bomb.
Having control on self-awareness, relationship management, self-management empathy along with effective communication as bring out best in a leader and can be great example for peers and subordinates and can make me a good and effective leader.
Answer 3:
My perspective : Each theories gives a different view of looking at leadership success, almost like looking through a prism, each may be the most significant key when helping an individual leader improve his/her performance. So for those of us who are engaged in assisting leadership growth and development, the key is being aware of the many facets, then identifying the key elements that are most appropriate for the given leader.
Yes indeed companies should use these approach for growth and development of effective leaders and work force. A company to be successful it requires and effective leadership and to get them they need to nurture and develop using these theories and other inputs as well.
