Slob Bob, a Facility Manager employed by Dirt Clod Enterprises likes to hang out at the local park for exercise. Often he meets another Dirt Clod manager at the park named Rita Booke. On Wednesday due to a cold front moving in they both decide to meet for dinner at the local popular restaurant. Their discussions cover many topics one of the interesting topics deals with the ongoing problems in the facility department. When the check arrives, Rita Booke suggests they split the 48.50 dollar tab. Slob Bob contends that it is his turn to pay, Rita Booke grudgingly agrees to let Slob Bob pay. Then Slob Bob mentions since they talked about their buildings and facilities he was going to claim it as a business expense. Rita Booke strongly supports the company policy which prohibits employees from entertaining each other and claiming it as a business expense. Since Slob Bob has worked at the company 7 years longer than Rita Booke she's confident Slob Bob knows the policy. If you were Rita Booke, how would you handle this situation? One of the ways to do so is to connect with the HR or the legal department to get more clairty on the polices and the reimburrsement policy that covers it and governs situation like the one she had encountered with Slob Bob

Assuming Slob's tenure and seniority ,it in no way gaurantees that he is well aware of the company policy

therefore she should abandon the apporach of assuming Slob's is well aware of the policies and the rules

She should approach this issue to avoid any ethical dilemmas through legal department or the HR department ,to understand what rule applies and the right course of action to be excersiced in the given situation

Ethical dilemmas are never easy to resolve , however a well crafted ethical and compliance policy that outline rught course of conduct and action goes a long way to resolving issues like this one .
