Question

This question is from Chapter 12 of the textbook "International Management" by Fred Luthans (9th edition):

Choose either Sweden, Japan or Brazil and explain how you would approach a rewards program (designed of course to promote motivation) if you were a US MNC expanding into that country.

1) What kind of reward program would you offer? What kind of reward options would you not consider? Why?

2) If the reward program would be different from the American program - how would you handle any issues that might arise amongst employees internationally due to these inconsistencies? If the program is the same as the American program - why would you chose that?

Explanation / Answer

The reward system at the organization is one of most prominent factor which should be worked upon in order to keep the individuals motivated enough to work and focus on their jobs on everyday basis.

Reward program for Japan

The focus should be on individually designed remuneration plans along with both extrinsic and intrinsic benefits. The pay structure should have both standardized as well as individual performance bonus and the salaried staff should be paid according to the job evaluation grading plans. Also, there should be company-wide performance linked bonus that should be paid to all employees.
