Disruptive technology is one technology that replaces an existing technology. It becomes the threat to the existing technology.

i Phone is not a disruptive technology as it didnt replaces any major technoloy or product at that time. While Samsung galaxy become a major threat to the business drive for Nokia phones through the market penetration. It replaces the existing Android java phones and thus android galaxy becomes the industry leader on mid segment phones.

Ssustaining technology enances the performance of established systems through value addition and technology enhancement or upgradation. Apple i Phone 6 is an upgraded version of 5 series of apple , thus it is a sustaining technology and similarly galaxy 6 is also a sustaining type. But in market after the introiduction of i Phone 6 i phone sales drop down and gradually attain the status of disruptive technology.

In disruptive technology one become threat to the older or it overshadowed or make it underperform others. In sustaining technology one will complement the older technology through value addition and upgradation.
