Explanation / Answer

Q1) the reaaction is C(s) + H2O -------> CO + H2

a) addition coal(solid) does not change the equilibrium as it is solid.

b) steam addition increased the rate of forward reaction , that is shift ot right side

c) catalyst increases rates of both forward reverse equally, os no change in equilibrium

d) addition of CO , a product shifts the equilibrium to left.

Q2) N2 + H2 ----> N2H2

we have the relation as Kp = Kc x (RT)delta n

where delta n = number of gaseous products - gaseous reactants

Here delta n = 1-2 = -1

Thus Kp = Kc (RT)-1

   or Kc = Kpx RT

= 0.2730 x 0.0821 x 850 (assuming Kp has units atm)

= 19.05

Q3) NH4HS -------> NH3 + H2S

a) NH4HS solid is removed, no effect as soids have unit activity

b) addition of NH3(product) , shifts the equilibrium backwards

c) addition of H2S(product) shifs the equilibrium backwards

d) removal of solid reactant does not affect equilibrium

Q4) an exothermic reaction is not favored with increase in temperature.

Thus the equilibrium shifts to left side on increasing the temperature from 313 K to 400K
