A chemical reaction where 3 moles of gas are converted into 1 mole of gas is performed in a cylinder. After the reaction has reached equilibrium, the volume of the cylinder is decreases by half. How will process of changing the volume affect the relative concentration of the products and reactants. 4)This principle is called Le Chatlier's principle.According to this when a system at equilibrium is subjected to a change in pressure or concentration or temperature then the equilibrium will shift in such a direction that it nullifies the change.
2) If more reactants are added then the equilibrium will shift to the product side according to the above principle.
3) In the forward direction the no.of moles are decreasing. Means increase in pressure favours the forward direction.
Now if we decrease the volume further means increasing pressure , so it favours the formation of products.
