Question
Due at the Beginning of the Lab Period Lab Section (Circle One): Mon What is a slide? What color do you expect your slide to be? Show the complete mechanism for this reaction. beginning with triphenylphosphine, benzyl chloride, sodium ethnocide. and cinnamaldehyde What solvent will you use to develop the TLC plate to analyze you reacts? What spot do you predict will have the lowest R_1 value? If you started with 0.354 g chloride and 0.100 mL of cinnamaldehyde, and obtained a 76% yield, what is the weight in grams of your isolated product? (Show your calculations)Explanation / Answer
1) An ylide is a class of neutral dipolar molecules.
They contain a formally negatively charged atom (usually a carbanion) which is directly attached to a heteroatom. The heteroatom contains a formal positive charge (usually nitrogen, phosphorus or sulfur), and in which both atoms exhibits octet rule of electrons. Ylides are therefore1,2-dipolar compounds.
They find application in inorganic chemistry as reagents and reactive intermediates.
