Question
The CAS numbers Physical state at 25 degree C (solid, liquid or gas) Vapor pressure (normally given at 25 degree C) Solubility (either in water or octanol-water partition coefficient) TLV and OSHA, if they exist (must be the latest version) LD50 and LC50 (include web site address as the reference) Odor threshold/information (include web site address as the reference) Health effects (Show hazard statements for the primary target organs or results of an animal study - include web site address as a reference) Skin effects (include web site address as the reference) Indicate if any are considered mutagens and potential carcinogens (include web site address as the reference) Indicate if any are considered reproductive hazards (include web site address as the reference) After you have answered all the above questions, complete the section labeled "Conclusion".Explanation / Answer
1. Ethyleneimine:
CAS number : 151-56-4
Physical state at 25 C : Liquid
Vapor pressure : 213 mm Hg
Solubility : Miscible in water
TLV and OSHA : 0.5 ppm and 1910.1012 respectively
LD50 : Mouse 300 mg/kg oral (http://www.chemblink.com/MSDS/MSDSFiles/151-56-4_Clear%20Synth.pdf)
LC50 : Cat inhalation 250 ppm/30 min ([Verschueren, K. Handbook of Environmental Data of Organic Chemicals. 2nd ed. New York, NY: Van Nostrand Reinhold Co., 1983., p. 653] **PEER REVIEWED**)
Odor : 2 ppm
Hazzards: thyleneimine is classified as extremely toxic with a probable oral lethal dose of 5-50 mg/kg which is approximately 7 drops to 1 teaspoonful for a 70 kg (150 lb.) person. Also, it has a corrosive effect on mucous membranes and may cause scarring of the esophagus. It is corrosive to eye tissue and may cause permanent corneal opacity and conjunctival scarring. Severe exposure may result in overwhelming pulmonary edema. Renal damage has been described. Hemorrhagic congestion of all internal organs has been observed.
Skin effect: Ethyleneimine gives inadequate warning when over-exposure is by inhalation or skin absorption. It is a severe blistering agent, causing third degree chemical burns of the skin. Wear appropriate personal protective clothing to prevent skin contact.
The mutation action was found to be gene mutation induction (micro-organisms, plants, mammals), mitotic recombination (fungi), mitotic and/or meiotic chromosome aberrations (plants, Drosophila, mammals) and dominant or recessive lethal mutations (Drosophila). 2. Pigment black 7:
CAS number : 1333-86-4
Physical state at 25 C : Solid
Vapor pressure at 25 C: 0 mm Hg
Solubility : insoluble in water
TLV and OSHA : 3.5 mg/m3 and 3.5 mg/M3 respectively
LD50 : Mouse 440 mg/kg oral (http://www.chemblink.com/MSDS/MSDSFiles/151-56-4_Clear%20Synth.pdf)
LC50 : Fish 96/hr
Odor : odorless
Hazzards: Hazardous products of decomposition can include carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and oxides of sulfur. Slightly hazardous in case of skin contact (irritant, permeator), of ingestion, of inhalation.
Skin effect: May cause skin irritation. Carbon black may accumulate in the skin after chronic exposure producing a tatooing effect called "Anthracosis." Prolonged or repeated skin contact may result in absorption through the skin. This may affect the liver, blood (pigmented or nucleated red blood cells) and cause weight loss.
CARCINOGENIC EFFECTS: Classified 2B (Possible for human.) by IARC. A4 (Not classifiable for human or animal.) by ACGIH.
MUTAGENIC EFFECTS: Mutagenic for bacteria and/or yeast. May cause damage to the following organs: lungs.
3. Ethyl 3-ethoxypropionate:
CAS number : 763-69-9
Physical state at 25 C : Clear liquid
Vapor pressure at 25 C: 1.8 mm Hg
Solubility : Miscible in water
TLV and OSHA : 2 mg/m3 and NIL respectively
LD50 : LD50 = 5 g/kg (rat) (http://www.chemblink.com/MSDS/MSDSFiles/151-56-4_Clear%20Synth.pdf)
LC50 : 1250 ppm/4hr
Odor : ester-like odor.
Hazzards: Liquid or mist may irritate th eyes and skin. May cause headache, nausea and vomiting, central nervous system depression with dizziness, drowsiness and unconsciousness.
Skin effect: May cause skin irritation.
CARCINOGENIC EFFECTS : Classified + (PROVEN) by OSHA
MUTAGENIC EFFECTS: Not available
TERATOGENIC EFFECTS: Not available. (http://www.sciencelab.com/msds.php?msdsId=9923983)
