Question

It is important to remember that peaks in infrared spectra refer to the vibration of specific BONDS, not functional groups. Several functional groups have more than one bond vibration that is active in infrared spectroscopy, therefore, several functional groups should have MORE THAN ONE peak associated with them in IR spectroscopy. Below is a spectrum and its associated structure. Assign the peaks with vibration frequencies greater than 1500 cm^-1 to specific bond vibrations AND functional groups. In each spectrum there will be two peaks for one of the functional groups.

Explanation / Answer

-C=C-H stretching frequence appears at 3300 cm^-1. -C=C- stretching appears at 2100cm^-1.Multiplate at 3000cm^-1 are due to C-H stretching
