If we mix two ideal gases made of different molecules, the entropy is increasing. A tray of ice cubes is placed in a food freezer having an ideal coefficient of performance (COP) of 9. If the room temperature is 40 degree C, will the ice cubes remain frozen or will they melt?Explanation / Answer
1) Entropy of the chemical reaction is not the only factor which affects the feasibility of chemical reaction. Theromdynamically a reaction is feasible if the free energy change is negative as the reaction will be spontaneous then only.
2) The city area generally lacks of vegetation, which is prominent on country side. The availability of water is also less. So the sunlight reaching on the earth surface is absrobed by building materials. The building materials are good absrober of heat.The building pattern also entraps the heat. The emission of gases from different sources like industry and vehicles are also cause of absroption of heat in the city.
3) the catalyst gives an alternate route of reaction with less activation energy ( the minimum energy required by reactants to covert to product). So the rate of reaction increases by the use of catalyst.
4) If we are mixing them at constant pressure and temperature, then the entropy increases due to increase in volume.
