Question
What is the percent composition of the alcohols I have in this solution? I have two unknown alcohols present. I believe that you must first figure out area % of each peak to then figure out a corrected area %, then use that to find the % composition of the two unknown alcohols. I don't really know how exactly to do that though. Please help. Thanks!

To obtain a percentage composition for the mixture, first add all the peak areas. Then, to calculate the percentage of any component in the mixture, divide its individual area by the total area and multiply the result by 100.
You can determine the percent composition of the unknown alcohols from the area from the following equation:
mole % of alcohol 1= (area of the peak of alcohol 1/ total area) x 100
total area= sum of areas of all the peaks
The area of the peak is proportional to the amount ( moles ) of compound eluted. Hence, the molar percentage composition of a mixture can be approximated by comparing relative peak areas.
