Question

Sapling Learning Map The flask shown here contains 0.584 g of acid and a few drops eset of indicator dissolved in water. The buret contains 0.170 M 10 What volume of base is needed to reach the end point of the titration? 15 mL base What is the molar mass of the acid (assuming it is diprotic and that the end point corresponds to the second point? Add base to the solution until it just turns pink You may need to reset the fitration if you go past the end point. g/ mol no Previous ® up s view Check Answer Next HEee about us careers prvacy policy terms of use com E R T Y U I o

Explanation / Answer

mass of diprotic acid=0.584g

molarity of NaOH(M1)=0.170 mol/L

1) volume of NaOH needed to reach the end point=V1=10.2ml(image)

2),moles of NaOH used up=M1*V1=0.170mol/L*0.0102L=0.001734 moles

As the acid is diprotic,so the acid and base reacts in 1:2 ratio.

H2A+2NaOH---->2NaA +2H2O

moles of acid titrated=1/2 moles of NaOH used up=1/2*0.001734 moles=0.000867moles

or,moles of acid titrated=0.000867 moles=mass of acid/molar mass of acid

molar mass of acid=mass of acid/moles of acid titrated=0.584g/0.001734moles=168.397g/mol

Let the volume of the aci be
