Question
For separate section, answer these answer these post lab questions. each question justify if pKa and molar mass are affected. Also state and justify whether the change will increase or decrease. 1) For Method 1, how will the molecular weight and the pKa value be affected (high, low or no change) by not dissolving all the unknown acid in the volumetric flask? 2) For trial 4, why was 25.oo mL pipetted back into your unknown acid after the endpoint was reached? 3) For trial 4, if less than 25.00 mL of the solution was re-pipetted into the solution, how will the molecular weight and the pKa value be affected (high, iow or no change)? 4) Carbon dioxide will react with aqueous solutions to form carbonic acid. If this experiment was carried out over several days, how would your results be affected? Will the pKa be higher or lower than the true How about the molar mass? would your results be affected if the pH probes were not calibrated properly, that is, how will the titration curve be affected based on this error in technique? How will the molecular weight and the pka value be affected (high, low or no change)? ith nur renort the structure of all the acids listed. (5 pts)Explanation / Answer
1. The molecular weight value will not be affected if the acid is not dissolved completely in the flask. This property is not related with titration. For otrher part, the pka value can be affected in titration because the less is the acid´s mass, the equivalence point will be reached faster.
And if the value of pka can be determinated by this methos, it will be affected.
2. Because if we pipetted again a certain volume we will enlarge the titration curve. With this we can determine better pka value and molecular weight.
3. Just like point 2, if we add some certain volume to the test solution we´ll be enlarging the plot and we can calculate better the pka value and also molecular weight.
4. Depending on the quantity of carbon dioxide dissolved in water and in the solution, molecular weight will be affected and also pka value.
