4. A student determining the equilibrium constant for the formation of the FeNcs2+ ion followed the proce- dure in this experiment. In Part I, 2.00 x 10 1M Fe and 2.00 x 10 3M SCN ion stock solutions were used. All standard solu- tions were prepared in 100-mL volumetric flasks. Com- plete the following calculations, and enter the data in Table 3 on the next page. (1) Calculate the initial molar SCN ion concen- tration in standard solutions S3 and S5.Explanation / Answer
initial molar concentrations of SCN- in s3=ml*molarity/100ml
=( 4*2*10-3)/100
=8*10-5
similarly S5=1.6*10-4
FeNCS+2molar ion concentrations also same as above
and absorbance A=2-log %t
S3=0.1817
S5=0.3429
5)like above calculation con Fe+3 E2 to E4 we get 1*10-3
6) concentration of SCN E2 to E4 are respectively 2*10-4, 6*10-4, 1*10-5 respectively
7) absorbences are 0.1372, 0.3645, 0.4881 respectively
9)Equilibrium concentration of Fe+3 we get using this formula [Fe+3]eq=[Fe+3]initial - [FeNCS+2]
10)similarly [NCS-]eq=[NCS-]initial - [FeNCS+2]
11) Keq=[FeNCS+2]/[Fe+3]eq[NCS-]eq
12) avarage of these give mean Keq
