Question

Use line notation to represent each electrochemical cell:

Part A

2Ag+(aq)+Pb(s)2Ag(s)+Pb2+(aq)

Part B

2Ag+(aq)+Cd(s)2Ag(s)+Cd2+(aq)

Part C

O2(g)+4H+(aq)+2Zn(s)2H2O(l)+2Zn2+(aq)

Use line notation to represent each electrochemical cell:

Part A

2Ag+(aq)+Pb(s)2Ag(s)+Pb2+(aq)

A) Ag(s)|Ag+(aq)||Pb2+(aq)|Pb(s) B) Ag+(aq)|Ag(s)||Pb(s)|Pb2+(aq) C) Pb2+(aq)|Pb(s)||Ag(s)|Ag+(aq) D) Pb(s)|Pb2+(aq)||Ag+(aq)|Ag(s)

Part B

2Ag+(aq)+Cd(s)2Ag(s)+Cd2+(aq)

A) Ag(s)|Ag+(aq)||Cd2+(aq)|Cd(s) B) Cd(s)|Cd2+(aq)||Ag+(aq)|Ag(s) C) Ag+(aq)|Ag(s)||Cd(s)|Cd2+(aq) D) Cd2+(aq)|Cd(s)||Ag(s)|Ag+(aq)

Part C

O2(g)+4H+(aq)+2Zn(s)2H2O(l)+2Zn2+(aq)

A) Pt(s)|H+(aq),H2O(l)|O2(g)||Zn2+(aq)|Zn(s) B) Pt(s)|O2(g)|H+(aq),H2O(l)||Zn(s)|Zn2+(aq) C) Zn2+(aq)|Zn(s)||H+(aq),H2O(l)|O2(g)|Pt(s) D) Zn(s)|Zn2+(aq)||O2(g)|H+(aq),H2O(l)|Pt(s)

NOTE:

While writing cell notation, follow,

(1) Write oxidation half at left side , where the element and its oxidised form is seperated by single verticle line. This line indicates the imaginary boundary exists between electrode and electrolyte.

(2) Write reduction half at right side, where ion and its reduced form are seperated by single verticle line.

(3) Use two verticle lines to seperate both oxidation half and reduction half reactions. These two verticle lines represent salt bridge that connects two compartments.

(4) With brackes after each species represent physical state and its concentration.
