Question
4. Enamel hypoplasia is a sex-linked genetic condition in which tooth enamel is normally developed but extremely thin, making teeth particularly prone to wear and decay. The teeth of affected individuals may also have a striped appearance. A female with normal tooth enamel marries a man with enamel hypoplasia. They would like to start a family. Their genetic counselor told them that if they have children, all their daughters would be affected by enamel hypoplasia but sons would not be. Based on this information, is enamel hypoplasia a dominant or recessive trait. Explain.
Explanation / Answer
According to their genetic counselor when they will marry all daughter would be affected by enamel hypoplasia but some sons would not be. if this is a recessive trait then toatal 75% would have be normal and 25% affected but here all daughter would be affected it means this is a dominant traits thats why all daughter affected and some sons would also be affected.
Let's EE shows enamel hyploplasia and ee shows normal
EE x ee ..................................P
Ee .................................. F1
EE, Ee, Ee, ee
here only one genotype shows normal on condition of dominant trait of enamel hypoplasia
it means it is a dominant trait
