Question

Can anyone help me as soon as possible ?
Can anyone help n: obsercations of the reaction in each test tube...? Investigation l. Obtain 5 test tubes and number them #1 to #5. For each, place 1-cm strip of Mg. Add lmL of 2M sulfuric acid to #1. Add 1mL of 2M hydrochloric acid to #2. Add 1mL of 2M nitric acid to #3. Add 1mL of 2M phosphoric acid to #4. Add lmL of 2M acetic acid to #5. Record your observations of the reactions in each test tube. Investigation 2 - Nature of reactants 2 Obtain 3 test tubes and place 1mL of 6.0M HCl in each. Add a lcm polished strip of Mg to the first. Add a 1cm polished strip of Zn to the second. Add a 1 cm polished strip of Cu to the third. Record your observations of the reactions in each test tubes. Investigation 3 - Concentration of reactants Obtain 3 test tubes and number them #1 to #3. For each, place on 1-cm strip of Mg. Add 1mL of 1M sulfuric acid to #1. Add 1mL of 3M sulfuric acid to #2. Add and 1mL of 6M sulfuric acid to #3. Record your observations of the reactions in each test tube. Investigation 4 - Surface Area Obtain 2 test tubes. Place one marble chip (CaCO3) into one test tube and about same amount of crushed marble chips into the other test tube. Add 1mL of 6.0M HCl to each test tube. Record your observations of the reactions in each test tube. Investigation 5 - Temperature Obtain 3 test tubes, and add 1mL of 6.0M HCl to all three. Place one test tube in an ice bath, the second in a warm water bath, and the third in a tap water. All each to reach the desired temperature (approximately 10-15 minutes). To each test tube, add a piece of Zn. Record your observations of the reactions in each test tube. Investigation 6 - Catalyst Obtain2 test tubes and add 1mL of 3% H202 to both. Add few grains of MnO2 to one of the test tubes. Record your observations of the reactions in each test tube.

Explanation / Answer

1) Mg metal reacts with dilute acids to give corresponding salt and H2 gas that comes out as bubbles and burns with a pop sound if a match stick is introduced near the test tube or beaker where the reaction is taking place.

Mg +2HCl--->MgCl2+H2 (With dilute hydrochloric acid)

Mg +H2SO4--->MgSO4 +H2(with sulfuric acid)

4Mg +10HNO3--->4Mg(NO3)2+NH4NO3 +3H2O(with dilute nitric acid)

3Mg +2H3PO4--->Mg3(PO4)2 +3H2(with dilute phosphoric acid)

Mg +2CH3COOH<--->Mg(CH3COO)2+H2 (with acetic acid)
