Question
please help with limiting reagent and theoretical yield. Not sure if I did it correctly. I thought the theoretical yield is the product moles * mw of product. is the limiting reagent the product? also, interpret IR. Thanks!
Explanation / Answer
Reaction of p-anisaldehyde + acetophenone
Limiting reactant = acetophenone
Theoretical yield of product = moles of acetophenone x molar mass of product
= 0.005 x 238.28 = 1.2 g
So your calculation is correct
Percent yield = 1.13 x 100/1.2 = 94.17 %
IR
3000-3100 cm-1 (small peaks) for sp2 =C-H stretch
1710 cm-1 for C=O stretch
1620-1680 cm-1 for C=C stretch of olefin
1500-1600 cm-1 for aromatic C=C stretch
