Question

A beaker contains 0.50 mol of potassium bromide in 600 ml of water. An additional 600 mL of water is added. Which of the following does NOT change? A. moles of potassium bromide. B. moles of water C. molarity of potassium bromide D. volume of solution E. volume of solvent When an aqueous solution of manganese(ll) nitrate is combined with an aqueous solution of ammonium phosphate, what should precipitate out? A. Mn_3 P_2 B. MnP C. Mn_2 (PO_4)_2 D. (NH_4)_2 P E. NH_4PO_4 An aqueous solution of HF is called A. hydrofluoric acid. B. hydrofluorous acid. C. hydrogen fluoroxide. D. hydroxofluoridic acid. E. fluorine hydroxide. Which one of the following compounds behaves as an acid when dissolved in water? A. CaO B. C_2 H_6 C. HClO_4 D. NaOH E. NH_3 Balance the following chemical equation. What is the stoichiometric coefficient for water? ________ NH_3 (g) + O_2(g) rightarrow ______ N_2 (g) + _________ H_2 O(g) A. 1 B. 2 C. 5 D. 6 E. 9 A chemical change A. occurs when methane gas is burned. B. occurs when paper is shredded. C. occurs when water is vaporized. D. occurs when salt is dissolved in water. E. occurs when powdered lemonade is stirred into water.

Explanation / Answer

15) (A) Moles of potassium iodide will not change as there is no potassium iodide added.

(B) As there is addition of more water ( 600mL) , moles of water will change.

(C) Molarity = Moles of solute /Volume of solution in litres

Solute is potassium bromide. Since there is no addition of potassium bromide , so moles of potassium bromide will not change but more water is added , so volume of solution will change.

Since molarity is volume dependent , therefore molarity will change.

(D) Volume of solution is changed as more of water is added.

(E) Solvent is water .As more of water is added volume of solvent is changed.

The correct option is (A).

16) Mn(NO3)2 (aq) + (NH4)3PO4 (aq) --------> Mn3(PO4)2 (s) + NH4NO3 (aq)

Mn3(PO4)2 is precipitated.

(C) is the correct option.

17) Aqueous solution of hydrogen fluoride (HF) is called hydrofluoric acid ( HF (aq) ).

(A) is the correct option.
