Question

8.) Phosphoric acid reacts with sodium hydroxide to produce sodium phosphate and water. a) Write the balanced equation. 3 NaOH tHsRu NasPoy t 3pao b.) How much water can be made by reacting 23.989 g of phosphoric acid with xs base? c.) How much sodium hydroxide reacted? 9.) Silver nitrate reacts with pota ssium phosphate to yield silver phosphate and potassium nitrate. If 100.0 g of silver nitrate is mixed with 100.0 gof potassiun a.) which is the limiting reactant? b.) How many grams of silver phosphate was made potassium phosphate 10.) What is the percent yield if you ran this reaction and made 23.9 g of the Pb(l) product if you started with 100.0 grams of Lead(lI) nitrate and an xs of Calcium sulfate?

Explanation / Answer

8) a) 3NaOH + H3PO4 ----> Na3PO4 + 3H2O(l)

   b) no of mol of H3PO4 = 23.989/98 = 0.245 mol

     NO OF mol of water formed = 0.245*3 = 0.735 mol

     mass of water formed = 0.735*18 = 13.23 g

c) mass of NaOH reacted = 0.245*3*40 = 29.4 g

9)

a)   3AgNO3 + K3PO4 ----> Ag3PO4 + 3KNO3

no of mol of AgNO3 = 100/170 = 0.6 mol

no of mol of K3PO4 = 100/ 212.3 = 0.47 mol

LIMITING REACTANT = AgNO3

b) no of mol of Ag3PO4 formed = 0.6*1/3 = 0.2 mol

   mass of Ag3PO4 formed = 0.2*418.6 = 83.72 g
