Question
Doublet of doublets 1H 5.039 Singlet 3H Doublet 2H 3.801 .291 2. How many different types of protons are present in this molecule? Explain in 5 words or less 3. What kinds of protons are most likely present? Explain. How many neighboring protons does the a. proton responsible for the doublet at 6.832 ppm have? b. proton responsible for the singlet at 6.66 ppm have? c. proton responsible for the doublet of doublets at 5.058 ppm have? Based on the molecular formula and 'H NMR alone, what functional groups are most likely present. Explain briefly 5.Explanation / Answer
Keeping in view the chemical shift values and their integration given,following answers can be given
2. There are three types of protons,one singlet(3H) ,one doublet(2H) and one doublet of doublet(1H)
3. Doublet of doublet (1H) around 5.039 could be venylic proton,singlet (3H) around 3.801 could be CH3 attached to either N or O atom. and doublet around 3.291 could be CH2 attached to carbon (CH)group.
4 (a) doublet around 6ppm indicates attachemnt with carbon containg 1H protons ( following n+1) rule.
(b) singlet at 6ppm indicates the attachemnt with carbon with no hydrogens attached ( following n+1) rule.
c doublet of doublet indicates CH2 group attched with CH- group ,it didnt follow n+1 rule because two hydrogens attached(CH2) to CH group are in diffrent chemical environment( 1H cis to CH and another 1H trans to CH).
5.The most likely structure could have Follwing structure with respect to tha data give at the top.
CH3OCH=CH2
