Question
Homework #2 1. Calculate the molality of the solution: 8.66 grams of benzene (CH6) dissolved in 23.6 gram of carbon tetrachloride 2. Calculate the vapor pressure of water above a solution prepared by adding 22.5 grams of lactose (C11H2201) to 200.0 g of water at 338 K. (Vapor-pressure data for water are given in Appendix B) 3. What is the osmotic pressure formed by dissolving 44.2 mg of aspirin (C9He O4) in 0.358 L of water at 25c? 4. A solution containing 0.150 g of Lysozyme enzyme in 210 ml of solution has an osmotic pressure of 0.605 atm at 25 ‰Assuming the organic compound is a nonelectrolyte, what is its molar mass?Explanation / Answer
Ans 1 :
Number of moles of benzene = given mass / molar mass
= 8.66 / 78.11
= 0.11 mol
Molality = no. of mol of benzene / mass of CCl4 in kg
so putting all the values we get :
= 0.11 / 0.0236
= 4.66 m
So the molality of the solution will be 4.66 m
