Please see attached question regarding first order reaction. Feel free to go into glorious detail in the explantation Please see attached question regarding first order reaction. Feel free to go into glorious detail in the explantation CH C CH3 cis-2-butene trans-2-butene 7. The half-life (Ui2) of the catalyzed isomerization of cis-2-butene gas to produce trans-2-butene gas, above, was measured under various conditions, as shown in the table below. Trial Number | Initial Pcis-2-butene (torr) | 300. 600. 300 300 V(L) T(K)-1/2 (s) 2.00 350. 100. 2.00 350. 100. 4.00 350. 100. 2.00 365 2 4 50. (a) The reaction is first order. Explain how the data in the table are consistent with a first-order reaction.Explanation / Answer
(a) The reaction is first order since the t(1/2) is a constant value for the first three trials, The t(1/2) is independent of the concentration only in the first order since the half-life of first order reaction is given by
t(1/2) = ln2/k
Hence the reaction must be first order
k = ln2/t(1/2) = 0.693/100 = 6.93 * 10^(-3) s^(-1)
