Question
An experiment was conducted in which sections of a eukaryote’s DNA were deleted to see the impact on mRNA production. Given the data below, explain why each of the deletions has the impact it does (or does not) (3-4 sentences are probably necessary for a complete answer).

Explanation / Answer
Deletion of -1500 through -1200, upstream of the transcription start site might have included some of the coding regions hence, the mRNA produced contained only 1000 transcripts.
Deletion of -1200 through -900, upstream of the transcription start site had not shown any effect because, the promoter, coding regions, all are out side the deleted region of DNA. Therefore, resulted in 15000 transcripts.
Deletion of -500 through -350, upstream of the transcription start site had not shown any effect because, the promoter, coding regions, all are out side the deleted region of DNA. Therefore, resulted in 15000 transcripts.
Deletion of -350 to -100, upstream of the transcription start site might have resulted in loss of DNA binding site for some of the transcription factors and hence resulted in only 1000 copies of transcripts.
Deletion of -100 to -1, upstream of the transcription start site, might have lost the promoter region where the RNA polymerase binds and initiates the transcription. Loss of promoter region resulted in no transcription.
