7 + 1 (bonus) questions for an overall of 100 + 10 points. 1. (35 pts) Fill in the blanks (a) (4 pts) In electrochemistry, SHE stands for with a half-cell reaction of be secondary] reference electrode. 1)
a) SHE stand for Standard Hydrogen electrode with a Half sell reaction 2 H+ + 2e- ----> H2 (g) . The electrode potential has assiged to be Zero V at any temperature. It is known as Primary reference electrode.
b) pH glass electrode can defined as a type of ion selective electrode made of doped glass membrane that is sensitive to a specific ion. It has to be immersed in water before and after the usage beacuse it has to be cleaned so that no traced of any other impurities will be attched to it which will impact the reading.
c)A rechargeable battery is considered as galvanic call beacuse during charging the active metal gets oxidized , producing the electron and negative material is reducing which is the same mechanism happens in the galvanic cell - oxidation and reduction resulting in the electron flow
d) Main function of the salt-bridge in the electrochecmical cell is not to move the electrons from electrolytemaintain the charge balance as electrons are moving from anode to cathode.
