Question

I need help on this experiment on how to calcuate the caluations.

How do the different changes in joint angle per 1 inch shortening translate into the concept of ROM? A muscle pulls on the bone 1.5 inches from the axis at an angle of 45 degrees with a force F_m = 50 lbs. What is the torque in foot pounds created by the muscle? (Use the torque equation T = F d where F is the vertical vector (y) or "rotary" force. During static equilibrium how much elbow flexor muscle force is required to hold-up a 25 lbs. weight and 3 lbs. arm weight, given a muscle moment arm of 1 inch, arm weight moment arm of 3.5 inches, and a weigh moment arm of 7 inches? (You may use the same diagram as above).

Explanation / Answer

Torque = Force x perpendicular distance

Given that force = 50 pounds = 222.4 newtons, distance = 1.5 inches = 0.04 M

Torque = 222.4 x 0.04 = 8.89 Nm
