Question
Bertha and Bob received a culture of Frankia and a culture of Rhizobia from their aunt Betty for their birthday. Unfortunately, Betty forgot to label the cultures and now Bob and Bertha need to figure out which is which. Due to technological difficulties (last Tuesday their DNA/RNA sequecing equipment spontaneously combusted along with all other DNA/RNA sequencing equipment on the planet) they are unable to simply sequence the bacteria so they need to come up with other methods to determine the cultures' identitites. Name three didfferences between Frankia and Rhizobia and briefly describe an experiement they could perform for EACH DIFFERENCE that would tell them about the cultures' identitites.
Explanation / Answer
By gram staining we can easily find the difference between two strains.
