Question
During an autopsy, 1.7L of stomach contents were removed from a known cocaine drug mule. This was filtered to remove any particles larger than 1.5mu m and diluted in a 1L volumetric flask. From this flask, 5mL was processed using SPE using a carbon sorbent which quantitative analyte retention. The cartridge was washed to remove interferences, followed by extraction of any cocaine present via a dichloromethane and methanol mixture. The solvent was evaporated and the residue was dissolved in 200mu L of aqueous solution and internal standard. Analysis of 10 mu L via gas chromatography was performed in which the cocaine concentration of this injection was found to be 2.7mu g/L. Please determine the mass of cocaine in the stomach (cocaine MW = 303g/mol).Explanation / Answer
