Question
a)
Which of the following statements about lymph nodes is FALSE?
Cells found in the lymph node include T cells, B cells, and macrophages.
One or two efferent lymphatic vessel(s) is/are attached at the hilum, along with blood vessels.
The outer cortex contains lymphatic nodules (follicles).
Afferent lymphatic vessels direct lymph out of the lymph node, along the convex surface
b)
Which two principal lymphatic trunks join to form the cisterna chyli?
jugular and cervical
intestinal and lumbar
bronchomediastinal and subclavian
lumbar and bronchomediastinal
Cells found in the lymph node include T cells, B cells, and macrophages.
Explanation / Answer
a). Lymph node is a small, bean shaped organ constitutes the immune system of body. Lymph nodes are primary sites for B cells and T cells alongwith other immune system adjuncts.
Lymphatic vessels adjoined with outer circle of a lymph node are known as afferent lymphatic vessels. On the other hand, lymphatic vessels evolve out from hilum are called efferent lymphatic nodes. Only one or two efferent vessels are evolved from the hilum alongwith the blood vessels (artery and vein).
Afferent vessels carries lymph and consists one way valves to exude the lymph. These are one way valves and prevents the back flow of lymph.
Hence, Option D is the correct answer, as afferent vessels move out the lymph through valves not with convex surface.
b). Cisterna chyli is a dilated cavity strucutre present below the thoracic duct. This sac consists of intestinal trunk and two lumbar lymphatic trunks It receives chyle from the intestine and act as a passage for the lipd products of digestion .
