what disorder is the man most likely suffering from?

how would the glucose in the urine explain the tired felt by the man?

how would glucose in the urine cause the thirst and the production of large volumes of urine

what would be a result of a Benedict test of the persons urine?

Explanation / Answer

With respect to the symptoms mentioned above, the man was suffering from disorder of Diabetes mellitus.

Patients with diabetes mellitus will suffer from polyuria (urine contains large amounts of glucose) and polydipsia.

Diabetes mellitus is due to the deficiency of insulin hormone in the body which responsible for the glucose absorption. So, the excess of glucose will be present in the body and it gets excreted out.

Tiredness felt by the man is due to the depletion of energy levels in the body. As the glucose in the body will excrete out in excess amounts there will be no energy molecules supply to the body.

Polyuria is always associated with polydipsia. When excess glucose is present in the body, to maintain the homeostatic conditions water will diffuse out. In this process along with glucose molecules, water and extracellular fluids will be excreted. This results in thirst. The water long with glucose will be discharged in form of urine in large amounts.

Benedict's test is used to check the presence of glucose(reducing sugar) in the urine. It is a diagnostic test for diabetes mellitus.

Benedict's reagent which consists of copper solution will yield red or green precipitate when encountered with reducing sugars.

As glucose is a reducing sugar and it gives red or green or yellow precipitate on reaction with Benedict reagent.
