Question
Consider a mesh network connecting n devices.
A) The total number of cables in the network is 55. What is n?
B) The link connecting two given devices has a bandwidth of 12 KHz and an SNR of 37. Calculate the theoretical capacity of this channel.
C) A sender S transmits fixed-length packets to a receiver R over a link in the network at 100 Kbps. The one-way propagation delay is 100ms. How much traffic, measured in bits, fills this link at a given time?
My Answers:
A):
Number of cables = n(n-1)/2
55(55-1)/2
55(54/2)
2970 / 2 = 1485 the number of devices connected via the mesh topology
B):
Shannon's Equation: C = B log2 (1 + SNR)
B = 12000 Hz
SNR = 37dB
SNR = 103.7
C = 12000 log2 (1+ 103.7)
C = 12000 log2 (5011.8)
C = 44399 bps
C):
I think i got A and B okay, but C i'm not sure how to do.
Thanks
Explanation / Answer
As you asked only third part you want to be done.....Already you solved first two questions.
traffic rate = capacity of bits/time interval
= 100 kbps/100 ms = 100 * 1000/100 * 10-3 s
= 100 x 1000 bits/100ms = 100 x 1000 x 1000/100 sec = 10^6 bps
